Darrell Lee Powell (1959- ) -
Candidate for the Circuit Court

Darrell Lee Powell was born in Cumberland. He is a 1978 graduate of Fort Hill High School, and a 1983 graduate from Frostburg State University. Powell is a former television news reporter, having worked for WHAG-NBC 25 Television.

In 2002 Darrell Lee Powell ran for Allegany County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Powell won the Democratic Primary on September 10, 2002 with 2,942 votes. However, although he garnered 5,188 votes in the November 5, 2002 General Election, he lost to the Republican candidate. The button depicted here from that campaign portrays a reference to his career and focus as a television broadcast journalist.

Darrell Lee Powell is currently employed with the City of Cumberland as the Fair Housing Specialist and Administrator of the Cumberland Human Relations Commission. He is also a freelance photographer specializing in sports photography. Mr. Powell gives back to the community by serving on several volunteer civic boards of directors, and as president of a youth sports team. Darrell Lee is a foster parent, and he and his wife Jackie Lavern Barnes-Powell have adopted three foster children.
