Tamela Frazier

Tamela Frazier is the first African-American to win the title of Miss Allegany County.

Tamela Frazier was born and raised in Cumberland, MD. She attended Fort Hill High School where she was a Sentinelette her freshman year and a cheerleader for the remaining three years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Frostburg State University, where she majored in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, with a health fitness concentration, and minored in dance. She was active in the FSU Dance Company, earning the H.P.E.R.D. Department's Outstanding Senior Dancer Award. She was also active in theatre, earning a Best Supporting Actress Award in her first production.

Tamela was sought out to play the roles of Tintinabula in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and the Moorish Dancer and Dancing Horse in Man of La Mancha at the Cumberland Summer Theatre. She competed in the Miss Cumberland Pageant, placing 3rd runner-up in 1992 and 1st runner-up in 1993. She won the Miss Allegany County title in 1994, where she became a pageant "triple threat" scoring highest in the interview, talent, and swimsuit categories.

Tamela continues her involvement in the Miss America system as a member of the Board of Directors of the Miss Maryland Organization where she has served as a Field Director, Assistant to the Producer, and Executive Director, Producer, and Choreographer of the Miss Maryland's Outstanding Teen Pageant.

Tamela has been teaching in the Frederick County Public School System for 13 years. She spent 11 years at Frederick High School where she taught Health, Fitness and Aerobics, designed and implemented FCPS' first high school dance curriculum, founded and directed FHS' Cadet Dance Company, coached cheerleading, and choreographed the school musicals.

She currently is in her third year at New Market Middle School where she teaches Physical Education. Tammy has been sought by many Frederick dance studios and community organizations to teach jazz, lyrical and hip hop classes. She owned and operated All Grooves Dance Studio, and currently owns and operates A Pole New You.

Tamela was a member of the first Washington Wizards Dancers during the 1997-1998 NBA season. She currently resides at her Walkersville townhouse with her Rottweiler, and three cats. She looks forward to finally marrying the man of her dreams in the near future, and splitting time between their Charlestown, West Virginia home and vacation home in the Caribbean.
