Capt. W. B. Bonacher. The dead alive

We stated some weeks since that Capt. Bonacher, recently acting as Provost Marshal of this city, had been killed in the battle at New Market, between the forces of Gens. Sigel and Breckinridge, on the 15th of May. We are gratified now to state that a personal interview with the veritably Captain enables us to contradict this statement. The announcement of his death grew out of his having received a serious wound in the left side in that action, the ball penetrating the flesh not more than an inch from the heart, and passing out at the back, happily not touching a vital part. In the retreat of Gen Sigel he was left upon the field with the dead and wounded, his companions believing and reporting that his wound was mortal.—

Strangely enough he represent that be received most assiduous care and attention from the Confederate surgeon and officers and in less than a fortnight was on his feet again, when he was paroled. Subsequently he went to Beverly and that point he came hither, to the infinite gratification of the numerous friends and admirers he had made by the gentlemanly nearing and courageous deportment which he uniformly exhibited in the exercise of his functions as Provost Marshal, who almost incredulously looked upon him as one risen from the dead.
