This list may include duplicates as some of the handwriting was difficult to decipher. For example Thomas Beaman may be the same person as Thomas Beeman, but there appeared to be two different spellings. The inclusion of initials also added confusion. It is possible that J F Somerville, John Somerville and John F Somerville are the same person, but they are included here as three listings in case they are indeed three different people. On occasion the clerk abbreviated names, but not always, and so knowing whether Sam and Saml Brown are the same people is unclear or whether Jno H Boyd is the same person as John H Boyd. Where there is possible confusion, both spellings of a name are included.

Once you have found a name, and want to see what job he did and how much he was paid, enter the name in the search box on the right. If the name is fairly unique you can enter one word in the search box and press Find it. If there are many similar names use the advanced search option, enter the full name in quotes, as in "Alex Abbott" (with the spelling from this list) and press Find it You will then see the page from the payroll with wages and deductions.
