Our State Election.

We hail the adoption of the New Constitution with unspeakable joy, believing that it will give new life and energy to every department of business, and will, in less than ten years from the day of its adoption, convince even those who honestly opposed it, that it is one of the wisest measures ever presented to the people of the State. We are aware that many zealous men throughout the State voted against it, and would much prefer its defeat to its adoption. These men differed from us as to the policy of adopting it, and as we have not a doubt that their opinions were honestly entertained, they were justifiable in acting upon their convictions of right. When the important struggle comes —the one which is to decide whether the control of this Government shall be given into the hands of those who sympathize with the rebellion, and who will consent to a dishonorable peace, or whether it is to remain in the hands of Mr. Lincoln for another term of four years, these men will be with us in heart, spirit and will, to do yeoman service in the good cause. Those who count on their aid to crush the Union cause, will find after the votes of the Presidential election have been counted, that they have been mistaken in their hopes. In every period of great reform, men of the purest motives have differed as to minor details in the onward progress of affairs, and yet stood side by side in carrying out the vital question involved. So it is in the present case. Although there has been a diversity of views as to the policy of adopting the Constitution, amongst the Union men in some of the counties of Maryland, there is none as to who should guide the helm of State for the next four years. On that point we are a unit, and we will say to our sister states that they may set Maryland down as one of the States which is sure to cast her electoral vote for ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
