List of all persons asessed in the county tax for the year 1872

Allegany County tax records, 1872 Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

This PDF comprises all names found in the 1872 list. It is alphabetic by name. It lists also the district where the tax on property or real estate was owned. For this reason a person may be listed more than once. For example Annie M. Bachman owned property and land in both Cumberland and Frostburg. Her name appears with both districts.

The same is true for companies that owned property in several locations. For example Henry G. Davis & Co. is listed for both Lonaconing and Oakland.

If a person was an executor or administrator of a will and was to pay taxes for the deceased, or a legal guardian for a minor, these people may appear in their own right and also in their legal capacity of paying taxes for someone else. Some paid taxes on money or land they inherited, and so are listed as heirs.

Cumberland - CH is the abbreviation for Court House, a district that came into being in 1799. Cumberland - MH is Market House, formed in 1852.
