National Guardsmen Re-Enact Battle Of Antietam

Re-enactment of the Battle of Bloody Lane. Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Above scene shows national guard troopers re-enacting the Battle of Antietam, yesterday near Sharpsburg. Md. Only one phase of the day-long battle was re-staged — that of Bloody Lane in which 5,000 men were killed in twenty minutes, exactly seventy-five years ago. Between 25,000 and 40,000 spectators witnessed the "battle" prior to which President Roosevelt delivered an address on the present unity of the nation, in contrast to the days of the Civil War.

Twenty-nine members of Company G. of Cumberland participated in re-enactment of the battle, on the side of the Union. Major Harry E. Flook and ranking officers were in command.
