Your letter of April 2 received. In replye to your Request, yes I was in the Battle of Antietam Sept 17, 1862 had a bother wounded that day. He past away 20 years ago. We were both in the Battle at South Mountain Sept 14 1862 General George Mac Lellan was in command of the army whom was supessed by General Burnside after Battle of Antietam whose command was releaved by General Mead at Fredericksburg VA. I have a record of my regiment the 17th Mich inft whom served with the 9 army corps till the surrender of General Lee at Petersburg VA.
At Antietam, General Burnside commanded 9 army corps General Willcox commanded first division of the 9 corp. My company was Co D 17 Mich inft, my captain was (?) Burrows (possibly Julius Burrows) of Kalamazoo Mich, he served in the US (?) He past away some 20 years ago. First Lieutent was W. H. White of Waland(?) Mich is dead. Second Lieutent was W S Logan of (?) Prairy Mich is dead. I have complead record of my regiment. We were in the first Brigade First Division 9 army corps the other of Regiments the 2 Mich inft, the 8 Mich inft enlisted in sixty one the 17 Mich inft enlisted in 62 and the 79 NY scotch hilanders the 4 Regiments composed first brigade first Division 9 Army Corps.

(?) further info I can tell you the number of Battles the corps and my regiment was in. You will pleas excuse poor writing and mistakes as I am 93 years old the 24 of May.
