Rank, Company, etc.:—Co. D. 111th. Pa. Vol. Color bearer of his Regiment in Campaign from Chattanooga to the Sea.

Remarks: "Was wounded at Battle Cedar Mountain Va. Aug.9, ’62.
Ran away from the Hospital before my wound had healed. Joined my Reg. on the Battlefield of South Mountain on the night of Sept. 14. Was wounded near the Stone Church (Dunkard Church) at Antietam Sept,14 ? 1862. Reported mortally wounded, laid all night on the Battlefield. When on the morning of the 18th. I was taken to the field Hospital where I remained until November.

Note: from newspaper clipping- Mr Blanchard was visited at this Hospital, the Dunkard Church by Pres. and Mrs Lincoln)

I again ran away and hoofed it on the Towpath of the Canal to Harper’s Ferry and joined my regiment. Was mustered out as Sgt. July 20th. '65.

Notes:
John Nelson's As the Grain Falls... lists a Calvin Blanchard from the 111th PA as being wounded at Antietam in the right thigh and in Smoketown Hospital.

Calvin Blanchard is listed as attending the Gettysburg 75th Anniversary Reunion, according to The Last Reunion of the Blue and Gray by Paul Roy.
