Hagerstown: An Illustrated Description, 1887

Bellevue Asylum Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

There is a class of business structures and private houses far superior to those generally found in towns of the same size. Conspicuous among these is the old Hagerstown Bank building on Washington street, which has been justly admired for its chaste and simple architecture and its substantial appearance. The store-rooms generally are spacious and handsome, and some of the buildings are of striking exteriors. On Potomac avenue and Prospect street and in some other localities the residences are surrounded by beautiful grounds and are themselves attractive in their architectural beauty.
