THE CHURCHES.

There are no less than seventeen Churches in Hagerstown, including nearly all of the well-known religious denominations, namely: Lutheran, Reformed, Protestant Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist Episcopal, United Brethren, Christian, Evangelical, Dunkers or Dunkards, and Baptists. There are two Reformed Churches, both of which have large congregations. The First Reformed is a fine old stone building, erected in the last century, surmounted by a tower in the Norman style of architecture. Two of the Lutheran Churches are of very large size and contain immense congregations; in a third one the services are conducted in German. The Episcopal, Presbyterian and Methodist Churches are handsome buildings, of hammered stone and beautiful architecture. The Methodist Church has been recently completed at a
