Hagerstown: An Illustrated Description, (Surrey)

Real estate advertisement for the Surrey estate Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

SURREY.

This desirable property, consisting of 38 acres, and fronting upon the Williamsport pike, adjoins the city on the south side, the corporation line passing through a portion of it.

Its situation is quite picturesque, as the engraving shows, and the surroundings, in some respects, are unlike any other section of the suburbs. Looking north, the view embraces a part of Prospect street, with its handsome dwellings, and the larger portion of the town on either side ; on the east, the beautiful South Mountain, and wooded hills and water courses on the west. The main stream Rows through the north end of Surrey, forming a pool of considerable extent, stocked with carp, and affording a sufficiency of the purest ice.

The near vicinity to the heart of the city, being but half a mile from the Court House, and a less distance from the churches and residences of Prospect street, should make it unusually attractive to persons wishing a suburban home so accessible to the business, society, and general conveniences of the town. Water and gas can easily be supplied when called for, pipes being already laid within a few hundred yards.

Of the 33 acres about 20 are high ground. These have been surveyed into ranges of very desirable lots, which can be sub-divided as purchasers may elect. The dwelling, of brick, very large, and substantially built, with six acres immediately surrounding it, will be reserved, unless a satisfactory offer should be made for the property entire.

The low ground on the north and east sides is admirably adapted to factory purposes, being level and of good shape; and lying along the B. & O. R. R. and the branch road connecting it with the Western Maryland, Cumber- Valley and Shenandoah Valley R. R.'s, is thus brought into communication with all parts of the country. This land is also valuable for trucking or pasture as a present use. For plats and fuller information, apply on the premises, or at Room 8 in the Mail Publishing Company's building, or address

A view of this property is shown on page 13

I have also for sale or rent a well built factory on the W. M. R. R., with a 45 horse-power Frick engine, but little used.
