Girls' basketball team

The Girls' basket-ball season was more successful than last year. Although they did not win the pennant, they played a good, clean brand of basket-ball and their sportsmanship was something to be proud of. The girls' games have been slow at times but this season they have given the rooters of Penn Hi a different attitude. The success of this was due to the splendid coaching of Miss Emily Lapp who deserves much credit for the type of basket-ball she taught the girls. The Maroon and White cagers finished in fifth place but we know they will make progress in the future.

Allwyn Price
Allwyn is one of the best forwards in this section. It was often due to Allwyn's sure back shots and splendid foul shooting that kept Penn in the running. Her game was marked by clean playing and good sportsmanship.

Wilma Goodrich
Goodie, stellar forward of the girls' team, played a fast, hard game and made many baskets from every angle. She was the backbone of the cagers. We are proud to have the best foul shooter who has won first honors in the League for two consecutive years.

Mary Bryant
Mary may be short for center but how she can jump and guard! She has played hard and clean. Mary's best bet was that she was everywhere at once and was certainly far from being slow.

Cathern Weber
Here we have a fast side center. For a better dribbler you would have to go far. Although "Kitty" didn't get the tip from the center so many times she could break up any play of her opponent.

Gertrude Woodyard
"Gertie" is another that can jump. She played hard throughout the season and showed much sportsmanship. Gertie was our captain and she filled her position well. Amelia Brinkman Amelia is one of those short guards but she sure can stick to a forward. Amelia has played hard and we know that the team would be lost without her.

Frances Botsford
Frances is our other guard. She always played to the best of her ability and did much to help the team on to victory. Frances could be counted on to break up passes and shots

Miss Emily Lapp
Girls' Physical Director and Coach
Penn Hi girls are lucky indeed, in being able to have such a fine lovable Physical Education instructor and coach. Miss Lapp is a graduate of Hood College of Frederick, Maryland.

Her classes of girls have been very well trained in calisthenics and in health dances. Miss Lapp has had full charge of all girls' athletics for two years. She has coached volley ball, field ball and basket-ball teams and placed them on the athletic map of Allegany County.
