Keyser WV athletic hall of fame

Donald Kay Hollingsworth (1958), Russell Wilson and Charlie Gurganus (Class of 1959) Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

Keyser High School is located in Keyser, West Virginia, Mineral County. This is just across the Potomac River from Maryland.

In 1994, Bill Hollingsworth (Class of 1957), Donald Kay Hollingsworth (1958), Russell Wilson (Class of 1959) and Charlie Gurganus (Class of 1959) were inducted into the Keyser High School Athletic Hall of Fame's first class of honorees as special contributors. The program states, "The following four gentlemen are being honored at this first induction ceremony for their contributions to Keyser High sports when, during a time of great change to our country, they became the first black athletes to participate in sports at KHS in 1955."

The first photograph is of Keyser High School football player Charlie Gurganus as he appeared on their 1957 championship team.

The center photograph depicts Donald Kay Hollingsworth from the 1955-1956 Keyser High School basketball season. Donald (or "Kay" as he was better known) also played on the 1957 Keyser High School championship football team. Donald is also the brother of Elwood "Buzz" Hollingsworth, who is the father of Vivian Keys. Both Vivian and her husband, Rodney, were instrumental in helping to identify many of the photographs on this website.

On the right is Keyser High School football player Russell Wilson as he appeared on their 1957 championship team
