Allegany Sports Hall of Fame and Babst Awards

The Charles E. Babst Award is given to any male student-athlete at Allegany High School regardless of grade and is awarded on the basis of Athletic Ability, Scholastic Standing, Leadership, Loyalty, and Sportsmanship.

Eight African-Americans have won this award. They are:

Kenneth Davis - 1962
Danny Darr - 1965
George Meade - 1982
Christopher D. Stewart - 1984
Johnnie Fields - 1991
Dennys Salas - 1994
P.J. Yates - 1995
Ramnik Gates - 1998

The following ten African-Americans have been elected to the Allegany High School Sports Hall of Fame. Their photographs hang in the lobby of the school gymnasium.

Mervin Eugene Pope, Class of 1961 - inducted in 1995
Crystal Bartlett, Class of 1985, inducted in 1998
Christopher D. Stewart, Class of 1984, inducted in 2006

Marsha Williams-Vickers, Class of 1988, inducted in 2010
Johnnie Fields, Class of 1991, inducted in 2012
Donald "D.J." Jessie, Class of 1994, inducted in 2013
Ramnik Gates, Class of 1998, inducted in 2016
Donavin Vinson, Class of 2006, inducted in 2017
