The new library opened in April 2008 at 401 Potomac Street, Boonsboro.

Funding for the new library was provided through the efforts of the Boonsboro Library Board of Trustees' Fundraising Committee, who raised nearly one half of the construction costs, the State of Maryland Capital Funding Grant, the Federal Government's Community Development funds, Washington County Board of County Commissioners, the Washington County Gaming Commission, the Town of Boonsboro and the Washington County Free Library.

The building, 10,000 square feet, has space for 40,000 volumes, a community room, separate children's area, quiet study room, a section for teens, public computers with internet access, and a comfortable reading area centered round a fireplace.

Things have come a long way from 50 books in a wooden box in Harvey Bomberger's store in 1901.
