On Febrary 22, 2008 the Boone Hotel, on the corner of Main Street and Saint Paul Street, Boonsboro, caught fire. The library, only a few buildings away, fortunately sustained only smoke damage.

The hotel, shown on the 1877 map as the Eagle and by 1897 as the Commercial Hotel, and in an early photograph as the Mountain Glen Hotel, was one of the five houses that Christian Dagenhart in 1796 reported in Boonsboro (Scharf, 1882). With its location on the "Bank Road", hospitality for travelers was essential.
