The people of Hagerstown are ever mindful of the obligation they owe you — the beloved, respected sons and daughters who have left the peaceful shelter of the Maryland hills for the many hardships and dangers of war. Therefore it is resolved that we, the left-at-homes, in your absence, pledge ourselves to the preservation of the many noble traditions of our friendly, well-kept city. We will endeavor to hold the landmarks of Hagerstown exactly as they were when you left—and keep them so until your safe return.
