Dear Sir :
I have the pleasure of informing you that the Centennial Celebration of Allegany County will be held in the City of Cumberland, Maryland, on MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 24 and 25, 1889.
You are hereby cordially invited to attend, and it is hoped you may find it suitable and agreeable to be with us on that occasion.
Our programme for the three days will embrace Speeches, Addresses, and Historical Review of the County, Music, Trades Displays Military and Civic Parades, Balloon Ascensions and numerous other amusements, and will be sufficiently varied and attractive to interest all.
Every facility for convenience, comfort and enjoyment will be afforded all who may attend.
It is expected to make the occasion a fitting testimonial of the Progress and Prosperity of "Old Allegany" and her offspring, Garrett County, on the One Hundredth anniversary of her birth.
All railroads leading into Cumberland will issue excursion tickets to the Centennial Celebration at Reduced Rates.
Any information will be cheerfully furnished upon application, and in due time printed matter giving details, etc., will be sent out.
DAVID W. SLOAN,
Thousands of invitations were sent to the former residents of this county thoughout the United States. (from The Centennial Bulletin).
