U. S. ARMY RESERVE CORPS TO BE ESTABLISHED HERE
REGIMENT OF CAVALRY AND BATALLION OF ARTILLERY WILL BE FORMED
—SCHOOL FOR OFFICERS TO BE PART OF THE PLAN.

An United States Army Reserve Corps consisting of one regiment of cavalry and a batallion of artillery to be known as the 306th U. S. Cavalry and the 302nd U. S. Field- Artillery, will be formed in this city in the near future, it was said today by Col. E. J. Kingsbury, who just returned from Baltimore where a meeting of a board of officers had been in session since August 4 at the Armory, and at which time Cumberland was designated as a post for those units of the Eightieth Division.

Formation of the reserve corps here means that 3,000 officers and troops will assemble here once a year and will go into regular military training, which is the sole object of establishing the organization.

(Extensive preparation such as erecting headquarters and assembling ordnance and other equipment will be necessitated.

The War Department will appoint a senior officer who will start organization of the reserve here.

Establishment of regular headquarters for the cavalry and artillery here Col. Kingsbury said, means that selection of practically all field officers will be made from this city and vicinity.

An officers' and non commissioned officers' school would also be established here at which classes will be conducted regularly each month.

The organization would consist of approximately 100 commissioned officers and 200 non commissioned officers.

The plan of organizing the units is: A colonel of the cavalry regiment will be appointed by the chief of staff; the colonel will select his lieutenant colonel who will appoint various majors or battalion commanders from reserve officers or qualified officers from this territory. Those field officers will select company commanders who will appoint other commissioned officers after which recruiting of volunteers will take place.

Ordnance, which would be assembled here would consist of field pieces, mount equipment, small arms and uniforms, besides the many incidentals required for an organization.

In case of any national emergency the entire organization would assemble here for preliminary training and enlisting the personnel to full strength and should another selective service be occasioned the draftees of this city and vicinity would probably be assigned to the units established here.
