New Librarian Will Arrive Here April 8
The Allegany County Library Trustees have employed a York County, Pa., man as the new librarian-director of the Allegany County Library System, Dr. Adam Baer, Frostburg,
board chairman, announced yesterday.
Mr. Neal was one of several applicants interviewed by the trustees since the resignation of Charles Blank, who moved to Hagerstown.
Dr. Baer said Mr. Neal has a master of science degree in library science from Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, and an A. B. from Gettysburg College, Pa.
He is a veteran of Navy service during World War II. His wife Evelyn is also a native of York County.
Mr. Neal will arrive here I April 8 to assume his new duties, land he and Mrs. Neal will establish their residence in Cumberland.
He has experience in business, public and community relations, as well as in the field of library service, management and direction. He comes here from Kingston, N. Y., where he has been serving as executive director of the Kingston Area Library.
The county system includes the main library on Washington Street, the bookmobile, and branches on Virginia Avenue, in La Vale, Frostburg and Westernport.
Dr. Baer also reported that work is progressing steadily on the extensive remodeling and enlargement of floor space at the South Cumberland branch, and it will be completed on schedule. New book stacks, carpet and other furnishings have arrived and work on lighting and lowering the ceilings is finished. Painting and other work is progressing.
