Frostburg Public Library To Officially Open Today

FROSTBURG-Mayor Perry W Myers will cut the ribbon today at 2 pm to open the new Frostburg Public Library at 97 East Main Street.

Mayor Myers will make a few remarks at the formal opening, which marks the climax of many months of work and planning by local residents who have donated time, materials and money to erect the library.

The Arion Band will present a concert at 1:15 p. m. in front of the library, and at 2 p. m., the mayor will speak and declare the library open. The building will be open for public inspection until 4 pm.

Favors will be given to each adult in attendance, but no books will be issued until tomorrow. Women of the city have volunteered to act as librarians, and along with members of the various committees will be in attendance today to greet the public. No initiations have: been issued since this is a public library.

Mrs. Grace Finzel Bittner, president, announced last night that a third memorial gift had been received by the library. The sum of $100 was contributed by Aden Hammill, Huntington, W. Va., a former resident, in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Lancelot Richardson, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Hammill.

The staff has decided to enter in a suitably bound permanent record book all such gifts as they are received. The book will be on display at the library as a memorial to the persons in whose memory each gift is made.

A number of entries have been turned in the contest sponsored by Mrs. J C. Cobey to select a design for a library bookplate.

Each entry as it is received is placed in an envelope without being examined by any of the library staff. Mrs. Bittner stated that no one will see the designs until the judges open the envelopes.
