Chewsville, Md.
July 17, 1942

Major General Russell P. Hartle
Somewhere In Ireland

Dear Mr. Hartle:

The Chewsville U. B. S. S. has adopted a plan to keep in touch with the boys who are in the armed forces of our nation. It was suggested that you were once a member of our S. S, and I, being an ex–soldier, having served over seas in the other World War, and supt. of Chewsville S. S. was authorized to send you greetings from our school.

I realize how anxious I was to receive messages from home, but you with your tremendous responsibilities would not have much time for so many letters. However, in behalf of the Chewsville United Brethren Sunday School we salute you with pride on the assignment of the high responsibility which has been entrusted you by our nation.

We pray God’s blessings and Divine Guidance for you and the men under your command and that your lives may be spared to witness the glorious victory that awaits us. I know there is no greater inspiration for a soldier than to know that his commander is a man who puts his trust in Divine Power. Remember our prayers and interests will follow you in every part which you participate in this great conflict between right and wrong.

Hoping you will accept this message in the same spirit in which it is sent.

Yours for a better world.
Chewsville U. B. S. S.
