Robert Moses Grove - MVP trophy - 1931

Lefty Grove, American League MVP, Lonaconing Click on the MEDIA ITEMS below for more information

His 1931 season was one of the finest in baseball annals. Grove finished at 31-4 with an ERA of only 2.06, in a year when the league's average was 4.38. His league-leading win total would not be equaled until 1968, when Denny McLain won 31 for the Detroit Tigers. Grove also led the AL in complete games, shutouts, and strikeouts, and won the Most Valuable Player Award over Babe Ruth (163 RBIs), Lou Gehrig (184 RBIs), and his teammate Al Simmons, who batted .390. Lefty then went 2-1 in the seven-game World Series loss to the Cardinals.
