Smithsburg, Md.
March 4, 43

Dear Uncle Pete,

Sorry I haven’t written sooner and hope you will forgive.
How have you been and how’s everything in Britain? Everything at home
is quiet, peaceful and under control. Uncle Pete I know I’ll never get to be
with you, but I repeat I certainly would love to be, because I just have a
ticklish feeling that it won’t be long now. Anytime in the future should
you get an officer “Capt. Harold S. Martin” under your command, give
him my best regards, he’s a hell of a good kid from my hometown. News
from home well there just isn’t any except that everybody is well at home
and sends their love. Daddy is still operating at Highfield and me, well I as
yet do not have a commissioned job, but for Civ. Def. I am really strapped
but I love it. This letter written 3.40 A.M.3/4/43.

Love,
Robert
