APO 305, New York City

Robert L. Hartle, Jr.
Smithsburg, Maryland
My dear Robert:
It was most pleasing to learn from your recent letter that you are keeping the good name of Hartle before the public, as a result of your tremendous accomplishments in your present avocation. The moral of it all is that 'that which is worth doing at all is worth doing well' and, while I had no apprehension that you would not so do, it is extremely gratifying to realize that merit is being acknowledged.
You perhaps know of my activities in a general way from the press so I shall not belabor you further thereon. Suffice to say is that I am quite active in this grand capacity of being back with my Corps again. I have had no contact with your friend, Captain Martin, but should be most happy to see him in case the opportunity offers.
You should go to town to see your Aunt Mary often and write your Aunt Lucile occasionally. Give my very best to the family, and continue on in this commendable rut of goodness.
Sincerely yours
R. P. HARTLE
