1. PAC War Department Cablegram No. R-333, 6 July 1943, Major General Russell P. Hartle, 02914, USA is relieved from command of Fifth Corps, ETOUSA and assigned to Headquarters, Army Ground Forces, Washington D.C. He will proceed by first available air transportation from the United Kingdom to Washington, D.C., reporting upon arrival thereat to the Commanding General, Army Ground Forces for assignment to duty. Travel by military or commercial aircraft is directed and necessary for accomplishment of an emergency war mission.
2. Travel will be performed by military, naval or commercial aircraft, belligerent vessel or aircraft, Government vessel, commercial steamship and/or rail. A baggage allowance of 55 lbs is authorized. In lieu of subsistence, a per diem of $6.00 is authorized while traveling on official business and while absent from permanent station in accordance with existing law and regulations. At such times when messing facilities are available, and suitable Government quarters or billets are furnished, this per diem allowance will be suspended.
