BANK HOLIDAY IN CUMBERLAND IS DECLARED

Proclamation Issued By Governor Nice As Aid To Flood-Wrecked Institutions

COVERS THE COUNTY

Special Bill Giving Authority Passed By Legislature Under Suspension of Rules

Annapolis, March 18. — Gov. Harry W. Nice issued a proclamation today declaring a legal holiday in Allegany county so that the banks there could suspend business.

Governor Nice said he would continue to issue proclamations daily for as long as it is necessary for the banks to be closed due to the flood conditions.

The Governor also ordered a company of the Maryland National Guard at Hagerstown to proceed to Cumberland to render any assistance necessary to the city and flood stricken people.

Governor Nice and the presiding officers of the general assembly signed the emergency measure authorizing the Governor to declare the holiday in Allegany county to meet conditions brought about by flood waters.

The bill became a law less than half an hour after it was introduced in the assembly and Governor Nice immediately signed a proclamation declaring today a legal holiday throughout Allegany county.
