Incident At St. James

An incident occurred at the College of St. James during the Thanksgiving prayers there.

Eighteen or twenty of the boys walked out when Dr. Kerfoot began to read the prayers for a Federal victory, as directed by Bishop Whittington.

Enrollment has fallen off at the college, with a class of less than fifty this fall.

Rev. William F. Eyster has resigned as principal of the Hagerstown Female Seminary. He has accepted a call to a Smithsburg congregation.

His resignation came as a result of the existing war keeping distant pupils from the border, thus depriving the school of that part of its support derived from boarders.

A large number of day pupils still attend the Seminary. Classes are instructed by Miss Mary Heffleman, assisted by Dr. Halm. Mrs. Halm will continue to give piano instruction.

THANKSGIVING DAY — Tomorrow (Nov. 28) has been set aside at Thanksgiving Day in Maryland and will, as usual, be observed by a general suspension of business. We are among those who believe that Thanksgiving Day without a turkey is like a watch without a main spring—no go! Will any of our subscribers take?—(Herald and Torch).
