Negroes Are Freed Here

Two free Negroes, servants of a U. S. Army Capt. Holibert who is stationed here, were committed to the Washington County Jail by the Orphans’ Court under the law prohibiting free Negroes from entering Maryland.

But the soldiers, disregarding Maryland law, went to the jail and forcibly released the prisoners.
