In the performance of the grave and responsible duty attending the execution of Frederick Smith, on Friday, the 10th inst., for the murder of Agnes Tracey, I was supported and assisted as well by the Military Authorities and Officers stationed in this town as by the Civil posse at my command; and it is therefore but justice that I should state, that much: of the order and regularity which marked the discharge of that duty, as well as the quietness and good conduct which prevailed throughout the day, notwithstanding the unusually large assemblage of people, was due to the efforts and attention of Capts. Richardson and McKechney. To them, and to the men under their command, and to my own civil posse I hereby offer my unfeigned thanks for the cordial support and assistance shown me throughout the day.

HENRY GANTZ,: Sheriff of Washington County.

Herald of Freedom & Torch Light
