2018 Annual Martin Luther King Day
The Fourth Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration was held on January 15, 2018 at the McKendree United Methodist Church of Potomac Park. Sponsored by the Allegany County NAACP Branch 7007, the event featured performances by the Metropolitan AME Church, Souls Won Outreach Cathedral, Brother Kevin Woods and Ministry of Encouragement Choirs. During the event, Lianne Cofield was recognized for her service to the community by local NAACP President Carmen Jackson and Jo Jacquelyn Cooper of McKendree. A packed sanctuary also heard Pastor Darin Mency of Hagerstown present his dramatization of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Numerous law enforcement officers were in attendance and recognized including Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson and Cumberland Police Chief Charles Hinnant.
