2020 Black History Month
On February 22, 2020 the Cumberland, Maryland Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church held a special program celebrating Black History Month. Along with a moving presentation by Ms. Robin V. Wynder from Frostburg State University the community was treated with not only a highly entertaining but also informative play presented by the Sunday School class on the history of the community, the church and its notable members. Tifani Fisher and Stacey Sanker developed the script and provided direction for the students. The AME choir under the direction of Lianne Cofield had everyone singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Following a blessing by the Reverend Dr. James Anthony Josey, congregational members and others enjoyed a fabulous meal prepared by the membership.
An historic exhibit featuring local newspapers from the 1830’s, photographs pertaining to local school integration and sports, Dr. Martin Luther King and other topics was also displayed.
