Alan Richard Ashby, 62, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Lions Manor Nursing Home.

Born June 25, 1941, Cumberland, he was the son of Betty Lee (Hollingsworth) Ashby, Cumberland, and the late Samuel Richard Ashby. Retired from the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Ashby was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church; the Fulton Myers Post 153 American Legion and the Disabled Veterans, Chapter 2. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Terry A. Ashby and wife, Shelva, Cumberland; two sisters, Carol L. Paige and husband, James, Hernando, Fla., and Pamela L. Bullie and husband, Jay, Mars, Pa., and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct.18, 2003, at 10 a.m., with Father James Kurtz, O.F.M., Cap., celebrant. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 P.M. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
