CALVIN E JONES SR. Cumberland
Calvin Eugene Jones, Sr., 63, of Cumberland, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at his residence.
Born June 3, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James Edward Jones, Jr., and Opal (Freeman) Jones. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Edward Jones and Ralph L. Jones; and two sisters, Sarah Louise Jones and Elfreda Jones. President and owner of Barnes Custom Jewelry Store, Calvin was an expert jeweler for 32 years serving the people of Cumberland.
He was very active in the Cumberland business community and his church community having served on the board of trustees for the Metropolitan AME Church as the financial officer, and on the Steward Committee, a member in the Men’s Chorus, and the Church Restoration Committee. Calvin later became a member of Gods Ark of Safety Ministry, serving on the building committee for the new addition to the church and helping to build the addition. He also was the camera operator for a TV Ministry. He was a member of the Democratic State Central Committee where he served as treasurer, vice president of the Allegany Democratic Club, a former member of the Greater Cumberland Jaycees, a member of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Frances Lee (Scott) Jones, Cumberland; a son, Calvin Eugene Jones, Jr., Cumberland; a daughter, Kimberly Louise Jones, Cumberland; six stepdaughters, Terri Lynn McKinney and husband, James, CA; Deatria Owens and husband, Reginald, TN; Gerri Lee Mason, and husband, Willie, Keyser, W.Va.; Monique Frazier, Keyser, W.Va.; Shannon Washington, CA; Flo Clay and husband, Douglas, FL; two granddaughters, Ebony Cunningham (who he reared), Cumberland, and Amelia Jones, Washington, DC; two brothers, Leon A. Jones and wife, Donna Jean, Cumberland; Roger W. Jones, Sr., and wife, Mary Louise, Cumberland; a sister, Jean F. Washington, Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A. 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday, March 23, 2003, from, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the Central Assembly of God Church - Bedford Road, Cumberland - on Monday, March 24, 2003, at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Everett Spence, Pastor Richard Green, and Pastor Alfred Deas officiating. Interment will be at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Gods Ark of Safety Church, Post Office Box 52, Frostburg, MD 21532.
