Carol "Butch" Jean Biggs, 65, of Cumberland, died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.

Born April 26, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph Bates and Elton V. (Frisby) Bates. Mrs. Biggs was also preceded in death by a son, Mervin "Sam" L. Biggs Jr.; three sisters, Helen, Betty and Iris; and two brothers, Frank and Johnny.

A homemaker, Carol was a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church and an avid bingo player. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mervin "Sam" L. Biggs Sr.; her daughters, Dee L. Biggs and Christal L. Biggs, both of Cumberland; her brothers, Joseph Bates and his wife Karen, Cumberland, and Jerry Bates, Hagerstown; her sisters, Juanita Redman and her husband Robert, Bloomfield, Conn., Parthenia Stephens, Cumberland, Janet Woodard and her husband Calvin, Hartford, Conn., Joyce Hendricks and her husband Richard, Temple Hills, Roberta Brown, Naples, Fla., and Donna Holly, Cumberland; her grandchildren, Shana Draya Seibles and Samantha Monroe; her godchild, Shante Frazier, Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Solomon Lloyd officiating.
