Young winners honored with recognition dinner July 24, 2003
A recent banquet at the Park N Dine West restaurant honored winners of the Black History Contest and those chosen as Outstanding Youth. The contest was sponsored by The Allegany County Library and Community Unity in Action Inc. The contest and banquet were funded by Church Women United of Tri-Towns. Winners were presented with a money-order, as well as a $20 shopping card.
First place history winners were: Rachel Lashbaugh, Calvary Christian Academy; Tyler Shreve, Bishop Walsh School; Danielle Shepherd, Allegany High School; and Paul Braithwaite, Calvary Christian Academy.
Second place history winners were: Alexis Peck, West Side Elementary School; Stephen Perkins, Washington Middle School; and Ian MacFawn, Calvary Christian Academy.
Third place history winners were: Nayobe Stephen, Westmar High School; Erin Lane Flanigan, Calvary Christian Academy; and John Treber, Frostburg Elementary School.
Members of the Community United In Action Board selected the Outstanding Youth Award winners. The Board selected youth who are good role models and who have achieved academically, athletically and socially. Winners received plaques. The eight youth chosen for the award were Brooke Sanker, Brandi Page, Denise Meade, JoAnna Renita Terry, Mahlon Harper, Heather Lease, Charma Harris and Chardae Harris. The winners have made presentations at other CUIA organized events for children.
