FLORENCE L. MEADE

CUMBERLAND— Florence Louise Meade, 71, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 13, 1942, Cumberland, Mrs. Meade was the daughter of the late Walter Younger and Elizabeth Selene (Smith) Younger. She was also preceded in death by a niece, Zenzell N. Younger; a brother, Norman Younger and two sisters, Mary Jane Beckwith and Wilma Jean Younger.

Florence was former owner/operator of Meade’s Fried Chicken and was employed at various locations in the Cumberland area. Florence was a member of the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church and a lifetime member of the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a lifetime member of the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Florence and her husband George were foster parents.

Florence is survived by her husband of 49 years, George L. Meade Sr.; her son, George L. Meade Jr., of Gaithersburg and her daughters, Lisa Parrott and husband Saunders, of Mitchellville and Cerece Claiborne and Zelda Rideout, both of Baltimore. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Barnett, of Cumberland, Angela Nicholson and husband Floyd, of Hagerstown, Virginia Jessie and husband Wanzel Sr., Frances Sell and husband William and Norma Younger, all of Cumberland, Linda Whitehead and husband Glander, of Baltimore and Deborah Moore and husband Darrell, of Charlotte, N.C.; her brothers, Walter Younger, Dwight Younger, Lionel Younger, William “Dump” Younger and Leroy Younger and wife Sheila, all of Cumberland; her nephew, whom she reared, Patrick Younger; her niece, whom she also reared, Florence Jessie and her special friend, Isabelle Edmiston, all of Cumberland; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; cousins and close friends.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred Deas Jr. and the Rev. Goodwin Douglass officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Patricia Rose, who helped Florence and the family through the difficult times.
