TIME CAPSULE OPENED
History Unearthed
Ebenezer Baptist Church Pastor John B. McIntyre checks the contents of a nearly 100 year-old time capsule that was opened Saturday. The capsule was stored in the cornerstone of the old church building, which was located on Cumberland Street. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1917. The capsule included a variety of coins dating back to the mid to late 1800s. There were copies of the Cumberland Alleganian newspaper of June 17, 1909, that included articles about the placing of the time capsule. Church members also found a Bible estimated to be more than 100 years old. For additional information regarding the capsule's contents, contact Carmen Jackson at (301) 759-2824 or email bbcan@verizon.net.
