— PIEDMONT, W.Va. — James Evers “Ebbie” Gilmore Sr., 72, of Piedmont was called to Glory on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at The Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, Md.

Born Nov. 9, 1937 in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Evers Solomon and Mary Elizabeth Gilmore. His sister, Rose Marie also preceded him in death.

He was a member of the first integrated graduating class of Piedmont in 1956 and a United States Air Force veteran.

James “Ebbie” Gilmore retired from Westvaco after 45 years of service as head trucker and foreman.

He attended the vocational School in Mineral County earning his certificate in Plumbing and Refrigeration.

James served on Piedmont’s City Council for two terms from 1999 to 2005 and was elected Mayor on June 1, 2005 served until his passing July 21, 2010

He was a member of First Church of God In Christ of Piedmont, and he held position as deacon and chairman of Trustee Board. He was also a member of the State Trustee Board for Greater WV Jurisdiction (COGIC), a member of the Board of Directors of Potomac Valley Hospital and vice- president of MOSES (Men of Strength Excelling Spiritually) of First Church of God in Christ of Piedmont.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Elizabeth Redman-Gilmore of Piedmont; his sister, Everetta Louise Wheeler and husband Bishop Henderson Wheeler of Piedmont; daughters, Teresa Ann Caffee of Cincinnati Ohio, Kim Marie Young of Monticello Miss., Lillian R. Bruce and husband Mark of Cumberland, Md.; sons, James E. Gilmore Jr. and wife Chris of Cumberland, Antonio Lee Gilmore and wife Nancy of Clarksville Tenn., Percy A. Redman of Clarksburg, W.Va., Brian K. Redman and wife April of Piedmont, Tracy E. Gilmore of Orange County, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church St., Westernport.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church 34 Jones St., Piedmont, with Bishop Henderson Wheeler officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at Potomac Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service.

James was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather who loved his family. We are comforted in knowing that he is now reunited in Heaven with his father, mother, and sister.
