JAMES R. “BUBBLEGUM” WASHINGTON SR.
CUMBERLAND — James “Bubblegum” Richard Washington Sr., 71, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at his home.
Born Oct. 11, 1942, in Cumberland, James was the son of the late William Washington and Anna Elizabeth (Yates) Washington. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles “Bubby” Washington.
James retired from Howell Trucking Company with 41 years of service. He then worked at Bon-Ton and Martins’ Food in Cumberland. James formerly attended Ebenezer Baptist Church were he was baptized.
James is survived by his children, Annette Washington, Cumberland, Stephanie Bell, Eastern Shore, Robin Beckwith, Loretta “Peaches” Bullett and husband, Terry, Wendy Beckwith, James R. Washington Jr. and Kelly Washington, all of Cumberland. He also leaves behind his sister, Constance R. Davis and husband, Kenneth and his brother, Jerry E. Washington and wife, Phyllis, all of Cumberland; his stepbrother, Derrick Washington, Denver, Colo.; a special friend, Laverne York and her daughter, Crystal Monroe; his dog, “Midget;” as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and one great-great-grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Charles Washington Jr., his nephew, officiating.
Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
