Leontyne Peck will be the guest speaker for the African American History Month Program to be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 11:30 a.m. at the Piedmont First Church of God in Christ, Water Street. Bishop Henderson Wheeler, Sr. is the pastor of the church.
Peck will speak on how African Americans continue to keep the faith in the midst of great adversity. She is the recipient of many awards, including a past Ford Foundation Study Grant for African American Studies, Business and Professional Woman (BPW) of the Year for Maryland, Who's Who Among African Americans and Commissioner on the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture.
A native of Piedmont, Peck has traveled to and lived in several foreign countries. She is the author of Box Vision, which will be published in early spring. The event is open to the public.
