Nial Franklin Keys Sr., 92, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Bedford, Pa., Mr. Keys was the son of the late James Russell Keys and Amy Margaret (Harris) Keys. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Olive (Byrd) Keys, Aug. 26, 2004; a son, Nial F. Keys Jr.; a brother, William Keys; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army veteran during World War II, Nial retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He was a member of the Holy Cross-Saint Philips Episcopal Church. Nial was also a member and Past Master of the Potomac Lodge 41 A.F.&A.M., and a charter member of the EAA Chapter 426, Cumberland.
Nial is survived by his son, Rodney Keys and wife, Vivian, LaVale; his grandsons, Jeffrey Keys, Cumberland, and Michael P. Keys, Cumberland; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Deacon John Martin officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
