CUMBERLAND –
Robert K. Lewis, 59, of Cumberland, died on Monday, July 2, 2007, at Myrtle Beach, S.C., while on vacation with his family.

Born May 13, 1948, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Marcellus "Lottie" Lewis and Margaret M. (Brown) Lewis. Mr. Lewis was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence L. Lewis; and a father-in-law, Walter "Rabbit" Files. A graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1966, Bob was a United States Naval Veteran of the Vietnam Era and retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Honor Guard. He was also a life member of the Grid Iron Club and officiated for many years in the "Rec" League Men's softball and basketball. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. To know Bob was to have a faithful friend who would always be there for you. He was a good friend that will be sadly missed.

Robert is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sue E. (Files) Lewis; his daughters, Suzanne M. Appel and her husband, Todd and Shauna N. McQuade and her husband, Joe; and his loving grandchildren, Harper Sue Appel and Walker Joseph Appel, all of Cumberland. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Marcellus T. Lewis Jr., and his wife Barb of Florida, Marshall Lewis and his wife Joan and Calvin Lewis and his wife Evelyn, all of Rochester, N.Y.; his sisters, Peggy Bates and her husband Herman of Sandusky, Ohio and Roxanne Peck and her husband Bill of Cumberland; his special mother-in-law, Norma Files; his sisters-in-law, Diane Stakem and her husband, Mike and Sharon Kessell and her husband, Jim; his brother-in-law, Walter "Buddy" Files and his wife, Teresa, all of Cumberland; his faithful companion, his dog, Shyla; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, July 6, 2007, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
