Steve went on to play college football at the University of Maryland, and professional football as a defensive back for the Denver Broncos. Trimble comes home frequently to speak to youths on the importance of education and need for strong character. In 2006 he was the head football coach at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia. On October 5, 2012 Steve Trimble was posthumously inducted into the Fort Hill High School Hall of Fame.
