"Unity & Healing" - Oakland (Garrett County), Maryland

Following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020 several events have been held in Oakland, Maryland in Garrett County, with the purpose being to seek social justice and overcome racial divides. These have included a rally as well as ecumenical church service. On Monday evening, June 22, 2020 an outdoor gathering and interfaith prayer meeting took place to discuss, pray and have a dialogue pertaining to racial unity and how to affect social and policy change within the community. It was entitled, "An Evening of Unity & Healing." Communication and outreach to friends and neighbors, law enforcement and legislative leaders were among the ideas discussed.

The event was attended by about thirty-five people and organized by Sydney Spaulding, Stormi Martin and Kendall Ludwig. The dialogue was led by Reverend Doctor Scott Robinson of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Reverend Doctor Chip Lee of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and Laura Robinson.
