Floyd "Pete" Elliott, 1926-2013, served on the Cumberland City Council for 20 years. He was elected to his first of six non-consecutive terms in 1986. In seeking re-election for 2010 he presented himself as "Experienced - Responsive - Dedicated – Respected.” Elliott was unsuccessful in his re-election bid to secure one of the three available city council seats.

Harold "Butch" Hendershot, 1954-2017, served on the Cumberland City Council since 1994 and won re-election again in 2010. The Hendershot campaign card depicted here, from his first election, promises "New Strength and New Vision for City Council". The Cumberland Times-News campaign advertisement noting his "Experience and Leadership" is from October 2010. Hendershot chose not to run for city council re-election in 2012.

David F. Kauffman was among thirteen candidates who in 2008 ran for the two seats available on the Cumberland City Council, a non-partisan position. Although Kauffman won in the Primary, he lost in the General Election. With the campaign slogan of, "Paving The Road to Posterity", Kauffman again sought election to the Cumberland City Council in 2010 and was this time successful in the November 2, 2010 General Election. Kauffman was also re-elected to the city council in the November 2014 General Election.

Gary L. Logan had originally announced his candidacy for Mayor of Cumberland, but later withdrew his name and decided to run for a seat on the city council. He finished sixth out of nine candidates in the primary, thereby having the opportunity to go onto the General Election. Logan's number one priority was to work for the people, and as such find ways to reduce the tax burden and wasteful spending. Logan would be unsuccessful in winning one of the three available city council positions in the November 2010 General Election. Logan ran for Judge of the Orphans' Court in 2014, but was defeated in the June 24, 2014 Republican Primary.

F. Perry Smith served as Mayor of Cumberland from 1974-1978. His campaign sticker simply depicted his initials, "F.P.S.", with a check-off for Mayor. A Democrat, he unsuccessfully ran for the State Senate from District 1 in 1978 with the campaign slogan, "He can do more for Western Maryland."
