Dave Caporale, a local businessman, came in first in a three-way race to fill two upcoming vacant positions on the Cumberland City Council. As noted in this campaign ad which appeared in the Cumberland Times-News just two days before the November 6, 2012 General Election, Caporale promise to be "hard working" and to bring "fresh ideas for the Queen City". Caporale is due to be sworn in on January 7, 2013.

Nicole Wagoner came in second in a three-way race to fill two vacant positions on the Cumberland City Council. At this writing she is the sixth woman to serve on the council. Elected on November 6, 2012, Wagoner is due to be sworn in on January 7, 2013. In 2016 Nicole Wagner, now Nicole Alt-Myers, announced she would not be seeking re-election to the Cumberland City Council.

Harry Stern was elected Mayor of the City of Cumberland in 1988, defeating George M. Wyckoff, Jr. Stern served four years until his defeat by Edward C. Athey in the 1992 General Election. The back of the 1988 campaign card depicted above for Harry Stern outlines his platform and reads as follows:

1. LIMIT the office of Mayor to 4 years, so as to avoid one man rule.
2. Have the various DEPARTMENTS answer to a council member.
3. Have the council members review the ventures that should be profitable, but are losing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars.
4. REDUCE administrative costs, by using local experts instead of outside consultants.
5. Review WATER OPERATION and use of funds.
6. With good FISCAL management, dam safety work that has been ignored for 11 years, can be done without raising local water rates.
7. COMPETITIVE bidding on all consultant services including legal.
8. Respect and adhere to SUNSHINE law at all times.
9. Give the people back the right to PROTEST an election.
10. Be responsive to citizens concerns in a TIMELY fashion.
