Antis Plan Campaign to Offset Invasion of Hikers

Invasion Of County Now Planned By Opposition To Suffrage.

The Maryland Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage at Baltimore has received a number of requests for literature and information regarding the work from various parts of the state, and also requests for meetings to be held and speakers to be sent to increase the interest of those who are opposed to the enfranchisement of the women of Maryland.

From Garrett county came letters asking that some action be taken to counteract any possible effect of the “hikers,” who were invading the county and awakening interest in woman’s vote. Literature was sent at once and plans made for meetings in Oakland and Mountain Lake Park. Although the suffragists report they gained over 800 names during the two weeks’ hike, the antisuffragists feel that the population of Garrett county, which exceeded 20,000, offered a favorable field for activity.
