BARBARA B. ROQUE
CUMBERLAND — Barbara Boyd Roque, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at home.

Born Sept. 22, 1943, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elinor (Boyd) Fink. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Douglas Roque.
Barbara’s education covered many areas. She earned her nursing degree from Church Home & Hospital/The Johns Hopkins University (1964). She graduated from Allegany College of Maryland (1979), earned a bachelor of science degree in political science from Frostburg State University (1982), and a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh (1985).

Mrs. Roque was retired from Allegany College of Maryland, where she had been the dean of student development and legislative and legal assistant to the president.

Active in the community, many will remember her service as an Allegany County commissioner from 2003 to 2006. She was able address social and health education matters while involved with the WMHS Board of Trustees, AHEC, and Allegany Health Right. Mrs. Roque was past president of the Cumberland Rotary Club and assistant district governor for Rotary International; past president of the Allegany Republican Women’s Club; member of the Allegany County Republican Central Committee; past president of the Cumberland Theater; past president, Gilchrist Gallery & Museum; member of the Allegany County Historical Society and Maryland Humanities Council; past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Allegany Medical Society; and, board of directors with the American Lung Association of Maryland. Dr. Roque was also in the class of 2000 with the Leadership Maryland program. Mrs. Roque was a member and former registrar of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Barbara met her husband, Dr. Magno Roque, while she was in Baltimore at the Church Home & Hospital. They were married on June 10, 1963.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Robert Roque and wife, Sharon, Naperville, Ill., and Steve Roque and wife, Leanne, Reston, Va.; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Sarah, Vincent, and Alexis Roque; and, cousins Betsy White, Donald and Marie Evick.

A memorial service will be conducted at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Martha Macgill, officiating.
